Alan Perry RIP Concorde design team

It ‘s with great sadness that I learned this evening of the passing of Alan Perry a wonderful friend. Many modellers will remember PP Aeroparts, well Alan was Tim Perry’s father and was very much part of the enterprise from the begining. Alan will always remain for me a genial white haired gentleman of great talent and experience with a wonderful sense of humour and vast treasure trove of anecdotes and jokes.

What isn’t widely known is that Alan was part of the Concorde design team and then part of it’s support and modification design team. He was in a previous employment involved with aerial targets and lightweight flying models were a long standing hobby.

Alan tried to retire several times but was always called back to Bristol and indeed when Concorde was retired Alan became one of the volunteer guides at Filton.

Alan was 79 and died as the result of a protracted miserable illness. I was fortunately able to spend some time with Alan and his wife Molly when we called at Tim’s earlier this year.

Alan generally spurned cars and instead rode motorcycles which included (to the great amusement of his friends) an ex-military Russian sidecar combination.
