Altimeter ID

can someone please help identify the Sect Ref of this altimeter which was fitted in the Nav station of a Mk IV Stirling? It’s graduated 0-30,000′ but looks nothing like the one detailed in Air Ministry’s reference guide.

Your pictures shows a Mk XIIIC altimeter, 6A/446. Ref 6A/445 if you want a luminous version.
My references show that the 6A/437 is a luminous Mk XIIID. The Mk XIIID is a 40000 feet altimeter where as the Mk XIIIC is a 30000 feet altimeter.

Thanks, you are quite correct. The new photo definitely shows 0-40,000′ although I think a Stirling would struggle to make 20k:rolleyes:

6A/437 is definitely what we’re after

cheers

swift about turn chaps:o

Just located a better photo of a MkIII Stirling panel which clearly shows a 6A/437 altimeter, this looks more appropriate to our needs, I’ll post this on our wants thread later. Sorry for the run around

blimey Alan, that was quick off the mark:D

The range is the same as the one listed in the Vol 1 but as you say the front face looks different.

Wouldn’t have one lying around world you……? 😉

My first thoughts…

It’s a Mk XIIIC but it looks to be non-luminous which would make it 6A/446.

I realised a while ago that I forgot to list the references that aren’t in the Vocab. They are on the list for what I hope will be a winter overhaul/make-over for all three books.

There are also slight differences in the position of markings on the dial which could indicate a different manufacturer than the one illustrated in Volume I.
