A couple or three visits ago, I tilted my camera into portrait mode, while it was on my monopod, and clicked off a series of overlapping photos for stitching into a panorama using the programme in Elements. The upside to portrait images is that they are larger in depth, size wise, than a landscape shot but the downside is that you need to take twice as many and that leads to a misalignment in places in the foreground.

I wouldn’t have noticed that they are stitched at all, it was only because you mentioned the foreground and you can see the misalignment in the ropes – personally I would ‘paint’ them out rather than try and match them.
The pics are odd at first because the backgrounds look like they’re taken with a superwide angle lens but the aircraft arn’t ‘bent’ which is the normal affect. Lighting and balance is superb.

Stitching software
I spent a while some time ago taking pictures for this sort of panorama, then not having much success stitching them together – eventually I found a useful bit of software which seem to produce good results – even better, it’s free! (Although only for Windows unfortunately).
It can be downloaded from http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/ivm/ice/
Using it couldn’t be simpler, start the software and open the images you want stitched together and it does the rest.
I’ve had some pretty good results with it so far, although one or two where I didn’t have enough overlap between photos weren’t so good.

Wow !! Well done sir !!! Having tried this sort of photo stitching (and failled) those montages are excellent. Think the misaligned foreground would be easy to photoshop out ?
