Hi
currently on e bay a photo captioned as beaufighter, I assume it refers to the a/c in amongst the He111’s which is almost a head on view of a smaller a/c ? I can’t really tell. comments anyone ? If correct it must be a very rare photo.
cheers
Jerry

Just to add that I have seen German photos of Blenheims captioned “Bristol Fighters”…..so they may apparently have had some difficulty determining what Bristol aircraft was what!

I might even go for that picture just to find what it is. I’ll post a better scan should I get it. Until then we have here a Staffel of He 111s sharing an airstrip with the remains of a Hurricane. I have seen this picture on Ebay several times since I got my copy.

It looks rather like a Blenheim to me.
Might that not make more sense, given the numbers of Blenheims left on airfields in France during 1940? There are quite a few images of He 111’s on airfields with Blenheims in the background. Just a thought!
The image(s) I am thinking of show 139 Squadron Bleheims on an airfield with, I think, He 111 of KG 53. The background to those images looks suspiciously like the background in this photo.

Certainly not. The item description says “Foto einiger Beaufighter Nachtjäger” which means a photo of several Beaufighter nightfighters. The Heinkels in the picture don’t have a fuselage band, so this indicates the “Westfeldzug”, i.e. the campaign in the low-countries, France or even the Battle of Britain. My guess is that this picture was taken at the latest in the summer of 1940 (note that the Balkenkreuze haven’t been blackened out). I’m not even sure if the Beaufighter was already operational at that time.
