Does anyone have any photos of G-ANUW in her early life as we would like to put her in a different scheme .The Dove’s at Duxford and East Fortune both wear the same scheme so we thought something different would be nice. If we can’t find a genuine scheme then we may put it in Ind Coope or Rolls Royce colours as these were used in our area

We have managed to get a cockpit door but there are a lot of other things required
At least that should reduce the chance of hi-jacking!! 😀
I’ll make sure he sees this update and ask him to check for any other pictures!

Hi Twin Otter
It would be nice to find a photo of her in the early colours there are photos around of others from the fleet one of G-ALFT which wore the Dayglo on the Air Britain site from 3/4 front so we can guess the front a little.
There is a desciption on another site that says the fin is dayglo but this is not obvious on the Air Britain photo we also know that the cheat line is dark blue but which? dark blue.

Hi Atcham Tower
thanks for the suggestion post placed

Dave,
I’ve just received an email from the Museum Curator who’s seen your post about Dove pictures. He believes there might be some slides in the NAM Archive; he will check for you on Monday and then advise what colour scheme etc. they show. 🙂
Sadly he has also advsied that NAM does not have any Dove spares.

It might be worth posting a request for photos and info on the PPRUNE ATC site. I remember spending an hour so in the back of a CAFU Dove flogging round Bournemouth back in 1968. Long before radar simulators, controllers had to learn to do talkdowns with real aircraft! Unfortunately, I neither took a camera nor noted the registration but some of the many students at Hurn may have done.

Does anyone have any photos of any of the M.TC.A., C.A.F.U Dove’s on the inside so that we can see what we need to make it more complete on the inside please. She is fairly empty inside and it would be nice to fit it out as much as possable. In the rear of the plane there is a large loom of cables which must have gone to a rack but l can’t see were it fixed any info would be great

Again good luck with the colour scheme search – on checking my notes I believe that someone posting on here provided the colour pictures that confirmed the Iraq Petroleum scheme for G-AHRI! 🙂
I hope you get a similar positive outcome.

I believe that at yesterday’s Aeroboot Graham had some discussions about a few surplus Dove spares that Newark might have following the recent completion of external work on G-AHRI! 🙂
As for the scheme go for something genuine it cuts out lots of comments and emails!
and a very nice job it looks to 😉 yes its good to be genuine but there are earlier schemes and if we could find a photo that would be great there is a mention of it in air britain of it at turnhouse in 1959 and it says its in a dayglo colour scheme with the m.t.c.a. There is a referance elsewhere to it flying missions on behalf of the ordinance survey photo mapping scotland

I thought she was built for the CAA along with the other machines in the batch which now star at Duxford etc.
Hi dave
Yes she did serve with the CAA all her life, but as l said there are two other dove’s in this scheme, so to make it something a bit different we are looking for the earlier scheme.
The type shown in the thread by Tim , “but what was the colours”, or we put it in a scheme she never wore like Newarks Dove when she was in “HOUSE COLOURS” that was where the Rolls Royce or Ind Coupe came from as these Dove’s operated in our local area.
There is nothing hard and fast about this yet thats why l’ve posted it on the forum to get some feedback as this will be a project I will be running.
The final paint is a good way off yet as there is much more work to do before we get there, we are at the very beginning and there are other jobs always in need of doing away from the Dove we are looking at a second romney if anybody knows of one lying around, as it would be good to keep the Sea Venom inside .
The wings will be worked on while they are off as the underside is heavilly corroded not deeply but there is a lot of it, l think this is due to it sitting in long grass keeping it moist.
l gave one side a wash yesterday it was thick with moss and lichen. All the markings will be recorded and then she will be paint stripped etched and undercoated it will be then that we need the final scheme.
We need a new/secondhand canopy if anyone knows of one as the one on it has a large hole in it. More wants later 😉

This Dove spent her whole operational life with the Board of Trade / MoA / CAFU (in its various incarnations) before being pensioned off. I think she was bought in 1955 and by the 1960s was carrying the red / black style scheme. See: http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1012975/
The unit’s initial Dove scheme, however, can be seen in the b&w shot of sister ship G-AJLV visible in this link concerning the history of Stansted. Scroll down until you find the paragraph about “other tenants”
