Recently we obtained a huge collection of original USAAF WW2 pictures – some of which have already been used in our Airfield Focus series on Snetterton Heath, Bovingdon and Raydon. However, one of the more ‘interesting’ pictures – apart from a Luftwaffe P-47 – is this one of a He.111H, which I ‘think’ is 701152 NT+FL.
I also suspect it was taken at CFE Tangmere and the aircraft appears to be wearing combined Luftwaffe, RAF and USAAF markings. There’s also some interesting stuff in the background.
Be interested to see what anyone can come up with!

Now that’s a flightline I’d liked to have walked along…:)

Looks like the pic was taken at the Enemy Aircraft Exhibition at Farnborough – the aircraft in the background fit.

Hi Graham,
That is indeed a very nice image of an He111H-20, WNr.701152 which is the example currently on display at the RAF Museum @ Hendon…. the insignia after HV comprised of a W inside a C inside an O, from the initials of Major J Carter of 61st FS, Major Williamson of 62nd FS and Captain Ordway, engineering officer of 61st FS. It was a pet of the 61 FS, 56 FG who painted it black like their P-47Ms. Hence the HV code. They brought it to the UK and left it here when the went home I think.
