Fellow forumite ollie oliver came up with this amazing newspaper cutting showing what happens when a car gets in the way of a Wyvern’s eight blade contra-props… ouch!
Taken at RAF West Raynham in September 1954, i would like to know more on the circumstances of the incident (apart from what is written on it) and the serial of the aircraft involved. The pic is credited to a Nephew Dicky Martin.

During a visit i tried to find whereabouts at West Raynham this bizarre incident took place. Although its difficult to tell because of a lack of background detail this looked as likely a spot as any – down near hangar 4 which it has been suggested is where they were based.

Just to add a little info to this old thread, i took Mr Howards advice and did indeed buy ‘the book’… so can now add the following;
During a ground run on VZ799 at West Raynham (787 sqdn) on the 15th Sept 1954 with Armstrong Siddeley representative Mr N Stynes, the hold down bar fractured and the aircraft jumped its chocks. It then ran into the reps 1939 Armstrong Siddeley saloon, with the car coming off a distant second best.
I’m just glad he didnt take the missus along for a ride, and left her waiting in the car.!
