Early Days of Flying on Sheppey

Since moving to Kent I have gradually become aware of the real significance of Leysdown and subsequently Eastcliffe as the location of early flight development in the UK. Apart from good material on-line and an interesting paperback history i have little else to celebrate its significance. And this notwithstanding some of the most important names in aviation being associated with the place, namely Wright Brothers, Short Brothers, Rolls and Brabazon.

There is certainly not much for the enthusiast to find “on the ground”. Why so?

Does anyone have any other sources I have missed or information not in the public domain which they could share?
