Had a visit today from a very knowedgeable chap, a Dr Fred Star who came to pick up an inlet and an outlet valve. He got excited when he saw they werent cleaned and explained the various deposits.
Learnt something new and thought some might be interested.
I never knew valves had to be cooled internally on airo engines using sodium and other techiques.
Not that you are likely to ever cut a Merlin valve up but if the sodium is exposed to water it will explode.
I have Freds paper on valve cooling as an attachment if you want to read it email me and I’ll send it.
Be carefull with those disc cutters out there 😎
