Cambridgeshire Bomber Command incident

My mother has just bought Children on the Home Front 1939-1945 magazine and on page 23 it mentions an incident in which returning RAF bombers were denied landing lights to land by because of Luftwaffe bombers were in the area. According to this article there was no mention of the bombers being diverted, rather they crashed!

Anyone able to shed light on this? Station, squadron date, casualties etc?
