My Dad (Peter), remembers the Velo at Old Warden. In fact he had a piece of fabric of it. He use to go over to Old Warden from Biggleswade skipping Sunday school. His tail is that the local lads told him that if he pedalled very fast down the hill out side the aerodrome he would take off. Each time he rode down he hill the lads said you nearly took off, but you must go faster. I don’t know how many times he did it before he got feed up, with not going fast enough! The family moved to Dunstable in 1935. But dad still has a soft spot for Old Warden, the place he first saw an aeroplane take off. Dad is still playing with vintage gliders and will be taking the oldest Slingsby glider to Bicester on the 20/21 June. Also most of the gliders at Shuttleworth he has had something to do with them. Not bad for a 87 year old local lad.
