Hello,
During a recent visit to Lewis, I found the Uig Community centre / museum had info and a section of fuselage from the recovery of Wellington IV Z1206. I believe this is the one Mark Evans is restoring the fwd fuselage of.
I hope I am not repeating anything, but could not find anything else on the forum about it, so thought I would share what I found.
The bomber crash landed on Traigh Uig, Lewis (Uig Beach) not far from where the Lewis Chessmen were found. It is a large sheltered beach, almost in an inlet like a sea loch and given the surrounding terrain, probably the best place they could have landed!
I did photo the news article of the recovery, but unfortunately did not come out too clearly. However, the community material did come out, and have attached the pictures here.
Hope somebody finds this interesting, and would be interested to hear any comments or further information, especially on the progress of the restoration
Regards,
Scotty

Spent a few days in the Outer Hebrides recently and also saw the Wellington section in the Uig Museum. I was fascinated to read the story of its crash-landing and recovery and am wondering how the restoration is coming along now. Does anyone have any info please?
