The Legal status of aircraft wreckage – who owns it?

Another thread promted this question, and I’d apreciate it if we could keep to the narrow topic of the header!

In Uk law, who owns aircraft wreckage? Is it regarded as ‘lost property’ or does, in the case of military aircraft, HMG retain ownership? I know that the USN retains title to all USN and USMC wreckage worldwide.

Or is it the property of the person on whose land it lies?
