C-130 carrier trials in 1963

I can confirm to you it was a one off trial with a C130 carrier deck landing The aircraft had been virtually stripped of any weight fuel etc. to achieve the results you see.

It was considered to be a non viable military solution to moving troops and equipment to an aircraft carrier and no future trials were planned after that.

Not to mention the trouble of clearing the rest of the deck and obvious safety issues.

With Grumman C-2s (a transport fuselage with E-2 wings & engines) and helicopters bringing supplies and personnel to the ship, the problems with C-130 outweighed the benefits.

This came up before – IIRC it was possible, but they considered it too difficult and too stressful on the airframe.
