A talk about daring pioneer aviators, early aerial photography and old air photographs of local places. Would you or supporters of the de Havilland Moth Club like to come along? The event (including tea/coffee and cake) is free of charge.

English Heritage and its partners in Wales and Scotland are planning to conserve the fragile original negatives in the Collection, scan them and put them on-line for people to access and use. But each image comes with very little information. We need people to help to improve this by identifying locations in the photographs, explaining the history of places that have changed, or recording memories about the places in the photographs, for example.
On 17 and 21 August we’ll be showing some local Aerofilms images and asking whether people would be interested in helping in this way. Our plans are dependent on successful fund-raising so the project hasn’t started yet. At this stage, we’d like to find out what sort of stories people have to tell and whether they would think about volunteering to help with the Aerofilms Collection. This is an opportunity to find out more about a national project that needs local expertise, and to share some fantastic local photographs.

English heritage are very lazy in this case.The aerial photo community in the Uk is small and mostly friendly. It would take about ten minutes on google and a few phone calls for them to get leads on a lot of this info. They have even employed the UKs top static balloon aerial photographer and surely know that Skyscan now host a big photo library with knowledge of the history of images across the UK?
Or maybe they just want to be given info instead of using a researcher and paying them for a days work !

The invite only just came to me via the de Havilland Moth Club. I would hope that if you have maintained contacts with former employees then it will filter down to you via the communication channels. You could always get the ball rolling yourself.

Gosh, I am mentored by one of the chaps who took a lot of these photos, I wonder why they never thought to ask former employees ?
