On Saturday I hiked up to the site of a TWA Martin 404 that crashed in 1955 in the Sandia Mountains in Albuquerque.
It was a great hike, though very sobering when you remembered that it cost 16 people their lives.

That was my reaction too, on seeing the wreckage, also how much was still there after 54 years but guess it is not such an easy place to carry stuff away from.
aero53…….. Any significiant reason for the visit to the site, if I may ask?

Just because it is there and I have wanted to do it for some while, and it is aviation related … Really good workout as well!

Remarkable how well preserved the relics are after 54 years. What is the altitude of the crash site?

The site is at 8200 ft. You gain about 2400ft during the climb. Took about 5 hours to get up and back down, fortunately most of the hike was under cover as the temperature reach 90 degC in the sun.
