Hi
I know very loosely historic,
but airfix had more whirlwinds than the raf..:D
and it must be about 40yrs old..
I noticed on e bay there is a re release.
Due to my living over the pond, and hence lack of access to a model box..
I wondered if anyone knew if the contents have changed much, anything added ? new decals ? etc.
before I invest my Cdn$’s and boost the GBP 😀
cheers
Jerry

Airfix Whirlwind – New Release
Hi Jerry
I’ve just been through my tub of Whirlwind kits to have a look at the Airfix kit for you. All of them have 34 parts, so no change there.
If we are lucky it may be a re-tooling but I suspect not. The transfers SF-P will be for ‘Comrades In Arms’ so no change there. The box art and starters paints, glue and brushes are a nice addition.
I’ll suss out my local hobby shop this week and see if the kit has landed here in Oz for you.

Prepare to clear the kitchen table this winter when Airfix release their long-awaited 1/24th scale Mosquito. A Bit expensive at around £70 to £80 but it will have over 600 parts. I still remember the 1/24th Spitfire my dad made over a period of weeks and which I wrecked in hours. In my defence I was only six at the time and aeroplane mad, as was my dad when I wrecked his pride and joy.
That could be impressive ! – I have a die-cast 1/32 Mosquito that takes up a fair bit of space, I did those 1/24 kits in my 20’s – the Hurricane and Spitfire they lasted long enough to start to dry out and become fragile. I did the 1/32 Beaufighter that Revill did as well, knocked it off the cabinet putting a jacket on, it doesn’t fly well 🙁

Jerry,
I can’t answer your question directly, but there are some good modelling forums that may be a better place to ask about model kits.
One that I use is Aircraft Resource Center
Another is Britmodeller
You need to register on the Forums in both cases (standard procedure on any forum).
Both sites have some very knowledgable – and helpful – contributors.

I can’t speak for this one, but my son is working his way through the 1/72 range and none to me look new or improved. I used to have one of these made by a good quality model maker on my desk and IIRC it looked just fine.
I’ll keep an eye out for it though, we currently have a B-25, P-40, F4F, Typhoon, Sea Fury, He-162, Me-109, P-47, a Tempest and a MK V Spitfire in a dogfight about to be joined by a FW-190, Typhoon and JU-87!
A whirly will fit right in……:diablo:
