Mustang lecture

For anyone in Melbourne Australia August 28th will be an important date if you are in to P51 Mustangs. The Friends of the RAAF Museum are presenting the inaugural George Merz Memorial Lecture; the subject of which is the History of the P 51 Mustang.

The lecture will take place on Friday August 28th commencing at 7.30pm for 8.00pm and will be held in the Ante Room of the Officers Mess at RAAF Base Laverton. The lecture consists of an illustrated presentation on the history of the Mustang and two keynote speakers. Mr. Bob Eastgate, owner of Mustang VH-BOB will speak on retrieving the aircraft from Jerilderie in 1972 accompanied by film of the event. Geoff Goodall is the other speaker. Geoff led the expedition to Emu Claypan in 1966 to inspect the Mustangs used as targets for the British atom bomb tests in 1952.

This is going to be a great night. George Merz was the first Australian airman to die in combat.
