I have a friend at the Flixton museum [ Norfolk and Suffolk ] and he tells me they had to give back the bubble canopy of their TD248 ‘recreation’ to its rightful owners.
Does anybody know of anything that could replace this?

It was indeed!
In my days, HFL certainly never disposed of any Mk16 canopies – far too valuable a commodity!

That’s right, thinking about it now, we just had the perspex and not the frame. It was a long time ago!
To think that I was offered all of that skinning, cowlings, spinner, radiator baths etc, etc when the museum closed. Didn’t have the room for it then, but still kick myself for not taking up the offer!!

Ahh! So we’re not talking about the TD248’s original canopy that we had at Earls Colne that came with all of the skinning that now makes up the fuselage at Bungay? It was a bit on the opaque side and just a little scratched and cracked!
Got my wires crossed then…

Ah! You may have got the old skins and the old perspex but I suspect the original canopy frame was re-glazed during the restoration.

I’m surprised to hear this Graham. Being that the canopy was last held by the Rebel Air Museum, and before that, presumably HFL, I’m can’t figure out why it would have been required by the “previous owners”…
What’s the story here, as the canopy was hardly servicable?
