I was recently going through a very large pile of DVD’s that
stores have these days – you know the ones out front for
2 or 3 dollars.
Among the many aviation doccos that I picked up was the
1985 Christopher Reeve film The Aviator. So, it was brought
and knowing the history and negative publicity this film got
I actualy found this film to be very well made. Quite refreshing
from all the CGI of today, still cannot fathom the slamming
it got???
Unable to locate any of the ID’s of the four Stearmans
and two Tiger Moths on the net I’m wondering if anyone
knows them or any of the pilots involved: John Taylor,
Brian Smith, Peter Kynsey, Tom Rayner and Misha Pavlovic.

Both of those Stearmans are still showing on the register as airworthy.

There was an article in a very early edition of Flypast about the making of this film. If I remember, the Stearmen were G-ROAN, G-AROY and G-BAVO. Pete Kynsey, John Taylor & Brian Smith are now well known UK display pilots, back then members of the Tiger Club.
I recall that G-ROAN was written off by gales when out in Yugoslavia on set.
