Ok… This is just a wind stab in the dark… But someone may be able to help me.
Several months ago… maybe longer someone made reference on here to a small prototype aircraft. I believe only one was made, and I think it had a Gipsy Major engine (although I may be making that part up). I think the best way to describe this aircraft would be ‘cute’… can anyone help me?… I know, it’s long shot!
Ah… I’ve just remembered something… I think that the aircraft had a jettisonable top wing.

All photos I’ve seen of it have been online.
Would make an interesting flying project if plans etc could be made. Such a HUGE engine for a tiny plane!!
(For comparison, a Taylor Monoplane (1950s design that is still very popular today) uses a maximum of 65hp, generally speaking a modified VW.)

I have spoken with Hills Cubicles. The guy I spoke with was aware o the aviation past, but doesn’t think that there are any archives within the company. He’s away now, but will be back in a couple of weeks. I will talk to him again on his return. He does have some Hilson aircraft photos that he found but doesn’t know if they include the bi mono.
Does anyone out there have any more information on this aircraft? Do any more photos exist?
Can someone give me an opinion on how they think this aircraft would ave been constructed? Wood, covered with fabric, or steel tube?
Mods, can you please change the title now that I know what the aircraft is. I dont really want to start a new thread looking for info. Can you please title it something like “Hilson Bi Mono – Info wanted”
Many thanks

Thunderbird,
That’s very interesting. Thank you. I shall make contact with them and see if they have any information on the bi mono.
For all other parties interested, lets not all bombard them with requests… I’ll make contact and report back!

The base for Premdor’s cubicle division operating under the brand name of Hills Cubicles & Washroom Systems. Hills roots go back as far as 1849 originally supplying quality joinery products to the Durham mining industry. The business literally ‘took off’ in the 1930’s with the production of the ‘Hillson Praga’ aeroplane, and this was followed with further aircraft production during World War II.
After the war the Hills joinery business really expanded and, a range of cubicle and washroom systems was developed and launched in the early 1950’s.
Now, our research and development teams have brought this ethos right up-to-date creating products for use in a variety of environments including office, retail, leisure and education projects.

And for a bonus 10 points, does anyone have any idea where I can find more information about her… Profiles, plans etc?

I looked on national archives and there is one document on there… I’m not sure how usefull it will be, but next time I’m in London I will go there and have a look.
