As a fan of the Kent Spitfire I am extremely disappointed that it will not be appearing and Kent’s Biggin Hill Air Show this weekend.
I have tried to contact Peter Monk to find out why it is not appearing but I have had no response.
It seems strange that organisers are ignoring this aircraft that is already based onsite and are instead paying for other Spitfires to be flown in from other parts of the country. Has the airshow not been inpacted by the credit crunch?
The airshow website lists 3 Spitfires as attending – ML407, MH434 and a T9 (I am assuming that this is the ARCo Dutch painted T9, but that is just a guess). Surely with this being the 65 anniversary of the D-Day landings a Spitfire painted in invasion stripes to commemorate the landings would be more appropriate than a Dutch painted aircraft.
Is there anyone here from Biggin Hill that can comment on this?

What a strange complaint…
Ever stop to think that perhaps it wasnt offered? One Spitfire is much like another!

I remember another operator based at Biggin Hill for a long time who had no end of exotic treasures in his hangar and chose not to place them on display at most of the Air Fairs and September shows held there during his “residence”. True the Wildcat, P38, Corsair and three of his Spitfires made occasional and very welcome appearences, but for the main he kept them all locked away, because he chose to do so for his own reasons. These aeroplanes are after all private property, and it is their owners who decide what they wish to do with them not the enthusiasts, general public or organisers of the airshows. Do all the aircraft resident at Duxford display or go on show at every airshow? I think not. I know the owner of this aeroplane in question and I know he has his own private reasons for it not displaying this weekend. I am sure it will nonetheless be an excellent show if the poor weather holds off. Only two T.9’s and a IXb Spitfire? You obviously weren’t going to Biggin in the 1970’s…

Do owners have a say in who fly their aircraft ?
.
What an arogant thing to say:eek: Yes owners do have a say who fly their aircraft!!!!!
Not airshow organisers, not airshow goers and certainly not you:mad:
Just because the Aircraft is based at Biggin Hill it dosent automaticaly have to attend the Airhow there??? There are many factors as to why a particular Aircaft does or dosent appear at any given show.

I’d love to be in a position to moan about which particular Spitfire I’m going to watch this weekend.
Consider yourself privileged to see three.

I am with you on this. This aircraft does a lot of good work with local events and also took part in the Normandy ceremonies this year. I see it as an insult to the owner and team of the kent Spitfire. Maybe that is what is was intended to be, who knows?
I have heard a rumour that the organisers wanted a certain pilot to fly the aircraft and this was against the owners wishes. So they found another Spitfire the pilot was allowed to fly. Do owners have a say in who fly their aircraft ?
I would have thought that the spectators would prefer the aircraft first and pilot second, they really don’t have a great concern over who’s flying. Airshows should be about the aircraft and what the spectators would like to see, not about the pilots. There are plenty of able and willing pilots and they certainly out number the available aircraft. If the commentators didn’t mention the name of the pilot would the spectaors be bothered ?
Me, personally, I just want to see this aircraft fly and I’m not fussed who’s flying it. As long as the pilots display the aircraft safely and are not trying to prove their abilities or “out do” other pilots.
What a shame it’s not in the show.
