Maybe that nice Mr 12 can ID it.

I have just returned…by coincidence from the Balkans. 🙂
Oh for higher resolution on this shot.
I too favour Greek Air Force post WWII.
A Mk. IX

Yes, I was wondering if it was possibly a Balkans Spit…

With the ebay seller being located in Hungary, chances are that the photo was locally sourced so a country near Hungary like Greece is a good bet

Greek?
Not Turkish…..???:D
And look….Spitfireman has made two Spitfires from one. So it must be Turkey! :diablo:;):D

I suspect it might be a Greek mk V -Is it just me or does it look like it has the later style elevators?
By: DazDaMan - 24th June 2009 at 23:01
Could it be a Seafire? The lack of theatre band means it’s either a Spit flying somewhere abroad, or very possibly a Seafire…?

Love these photos.
I enhanced it a bit.
Looks well robbed to be honest, no fuel tank and armour, cowling gone, canopy gone, 3 blade prop broken (wooden?), spinner gone, port cannon gone………….if it was propped up on bricks, it could be on a birmingham council estate…..no sky band rear fuselage, tail wheel gone…………
MK12??
Baz
I was meaning MK12 the man not MkXII the mark.

top portion of FR5 looks to be sloping fwds
The firewalls are just two sheets of .022″ ally with a 3mm asbestos core along with a few stiffeners. With a bit of pulling and pushing can be bent forward to remove the top fuel tank if in a hurry.

I’ll hazard a guess at a Mk.V, probably a B.
Look at the leading edge of the wing – there’s the stub for the cannon barrel. Presumably the guns were removed at some point. Doesn’t appear to have the secondary cannon stub, either, thus ruling out a Mk.Vc.

It looks to me to be a very early mark, but 3 blade propeller and non retractable tailwheel. Roundels don’t look to have any yellow outer. For it to have been so stripped, it doesn’t seem to be a UK location, otherwise it would have been recovered. Similarly, I’m sure the Germans would have recovered it, had this been on occupied territory. Also there is a very strange tall telegraph pole, which looks to be too close for the aircraft to have skidded to a halt without hitting it, nearby. Any telegraph pole enthusiasts?

Thanks Steve and SMS88

The rounded top of the fin has to be MkIX or earlier. The roundel is interesting – a small size centre circle, colour which may or may not be red.if thats an RAF roundel then it looks like an early war shot, probably MkI or MkII but if thats a French or Italian roundel then it could be a MkIX postwar

Hi Whitley project, looks like a griffon engined spit because the top portion of FR5 looks to be sloping fwds, i may be wrong though !!
Steve
Think i am wrong cos not enough blades on the prop
