Nice acquisition from the Aeroboot…it is a Dover control wheel made in the US….several were acquired for RAF aircraft. This one is stamped AID 25R (an inspector’s stamp)….has Patents USA FRANCE GERMANY ITALY BELGIUM and another stamp
Dover Patents No.18148-1906 and No.829-1913. Lovely and early. I am hoping to find out what it is off….it came with a heavy brass column which is supposed to be part of it (brass was often used on airships – no sparks). I know HMA Airship Delta had one. Does anyone know what other aircraft were fitted with these ‘exonite’ wheels please?

cheers Pondskater….the only UK aircraft I know to have had one is the Airship Delta….would not surprise me if the Curtiss America had one too…any sources of early cockpit phots?

Tony – not a Felixstowe F2a. It had a five spoked wheel. There is a photo of the interior over on the Flying Boat forum:

Maybe earlier. When Cees said pre-war, I did wonder which war he meant 🙂

Looks pre-war to me, Felixstowe flying boat? Fokker aircraft of the time (Fokker Ten as built under license by Avro>) also had similar control wheels.
Cheers

Good find Tony!
Just shows that getting to the Aero-boot first can pay off. 😀
Sorry I can’t ID it for you.
