Computor dead reckoning MK 4

I found this when clearing out my late fathers shed and just kept it without
knowning any of its background.

After googling, I can find a mk 4a computor to be around the early 1950’s but can anyone put a date on this one please?

I am aware that there is a slide scale missing that slips through the middle.

Thanks in advance.

Brian.

It said something about security, suggested i email the administrator, i clicked on that and TRIED to do that, but then it said something like ‘HTTP’s are not supported’ and wouldn’t let me!-then i tried to use my phone and it had seized up!-i swore quite a lot and gave up!-MY GOD I HATE MODERN TECHNOLOGY!!

… and after seemingly 10 minutes of waiting for file to be uploaded, i get a message saying “upload of file failed”- with absolutely no explanation as to why this has happened- PLEASE, SOMEBODY TELL ME THAT THIS SORT OF STUFF DOESN’T ONLY HAPPEN TO ME!!

Thanks everyone for an excellent thread

Thanks oxcart for the tact. As you might guess 6B/125 (lower number) would be older and therefore wartime …… Please post a pic if possible.

pimpernel, Knots and MPH has been discussed recently, see

Thanks for the pointer smirky.

Great stuff!!

Thanks to all for your help with this.

Between 1944 -1950 then?

My next question – did the term knot take over from mph for military aircraft as some of the early ones I thought were in mph – I could be wrong with this one?

I forgot to mention that its from a DH Mosquito. Evilbay here it come’s -tic :dev2:

Thanks, Smirky!- the stores number is 6B/144 and under a hinged front section with some sort of dial on the front, it does have a scrolling arrangement with a knob to control it-but it looks like graph paper (to me) rather than a map-with numbers at intervals fanned out and within a moveable ring with degrees on it-underneath a perspex cover-the cover has 3 crosses in pencil on it-so its obviously seen some use!

If its the one with the red scrolling graph and the knobs then I’m pretty sure its older. Does it have a stores number on it?

Mine is marked on the box “Computer Navigational MK III C”-it looks more modern than the one pictured, though-any (relevant!) info would be appreciated!

CRP-4, that is posh.

Lol, my dad still uses an ancient CRP-1 for flight planning. Got a nicer one somewhere though……

Also useful for tide calculations when sailing.

I was waiting for an expert poster but, in my opinion, it is after 1944 because it is not marked AM and before the “early 1950s” when the mk4a came out.
