Nieuport Type 12 replica prang and write off

The Nieupor Type 12 replica that was flying at Watts Bridge Airfield has pranged and was written off. I put up a youTube video I made of it doing taxi trials. I have posted another video on YouTube showing it taking off/landing and some vision of the prang scene

Bit sad, but the pilot Bruce is alive and well, but with a busted leg which in about a months time should be OK. He is going to build a Sopwith Pup next and hopes to have it finished by the end of the year.

The cause of the prang is thought to be that the wings flew before the rudder had enough authority. Bruce has agreed to do an interview about building the Type 12 and about its handling characteristics in the air and he will give his opinion on what caused the prang.

Here is the link to the video I made shortly after the prang – All a bit sad because it was a great looking aeroplane.

You might notice how quickly the mainplanes fly,

cheers

How sad that after all the work that it’s destroyed shortly after it’s first flight.

Glad he’s recovering and already planning for his next project.

I think it had done about half a dozen flights, mostly just short ones. Interestingly there is another Nieuport replica about ready to do its first flight at Watts Bridge (similar colour scheme).

That one is a Type 11??. In the plans for it, there are two sizes for the rudder, one 28 inches high, the other 32 inches high. If I can get some video of it flying, I will put up a posting.

cheers
