The plane crashed yesterday at Rochester (NY ?). Looks like a Vampire?

Plane was owned by John Travolta at one time. It is called a 1947 Viper (:p)

No, this was the oldest flying by some margin. No longer it would seem.
That would leave Winston or the F86A at Duxford as the oldest now I guess, at least until one or two of the historic WW2 jets under rebuild come to fruition.

I was under the impression that “Winston” – former RAF F8 Meteor VZ467 now flying in Temora is the oldest flying jet in the world…. Well it was when Flypast did a published survey…

Did you mean oldest airworthy jet in the World?
There are older jets in museums etc.

I suspect its game over for that one.
A low value to start with, even if it is/was the oldest jet flying means large restoration bills will be unsupportable.
The obvious damage – to the pod means that it will require a complete new fuselage pod. I didnt see what the damage was elsewhere, but it wont be good.
Shame.

News report says “minor damage” to the nose section, looks abit worse than minor.
I wonder if Bruce could give an insight to the damage shown and rebuild possibilities.
Well done to the pilot by the looks of it and i hope he is soon back up and about.
