Canberras for Argentina: WH914 and XH583

Hello all,

some of you may be familiar with the story of how the Argentine Air Force ordered two attrition replacements for their Canberra fleet, shortly before the Falklands War. These two machines were prepared at BAC Warton under the designation B.92 and T.94, as more upgraded versions of the B.62 and T.64, serialled WH914 and XH583. The story goes that the arms embargo ended the work, and they were shelved at Samlesbury, and possibly broken up later.

Does anybody know anything about these two airframes, and exactly what happened to them? Better still, does anybody know what the 92/94 series upgrades involved? I’m guessing better avionics, but would love to know details.

Cheers all,

Steve

Cheers for that TJ, interesting the Clyde Preservation site does not state that WH914 was scrapped, although I’m sure it has been by now. Too bad really, especially as they had paid for them, but then again there was that matter of the invasion…:(
