An interesting newspaper cutting from WW2

While clearing out my mothers loft a few weeks ago I found all sorts of interesting items including this:-

I don’t know anything about FO Browne, but somebody might, PO Noel Truman was my fathers cousin, I know very little about his wartime career and was always led to believe he flew Blenheims, however I know that 625 squadron operated Lancasters out of Kelstern, I’m assuming the award of the DFC related to a raid from there. I know that Noel survived the war, does anybody know anything.

Isn’t that always the way with parents? They never tell you anything about their past until it is too late, i.e. they have passed on. I have been doing my ancestry research for the past eighteen months and have been able to discover my father’s RNVR career and put it on the official RNVR website.

The one interesting story that he did tell us that early in his career, he sailed on a ship from Bristol to Glasgow and he was delegated as the radio officer. Every day the Captain would ask for any messages and Dad would reply no. When they arrived, the official radio officer joined the ship and showed Dad how to switch the radio on.:o

Pete, has your loft clearance anything to do with your recent ‘turmoil’?
