I’m after a bit of advice on visiting Washington DC.
I’ll have 1 day (only 9 hours) there later in the year and really want to visit the Udvar-Hazy Center. I need to allow enough time to see the main tourist sites with my better half. We’ll be arriving and leaving from Union station and wonder how hard it is to get from there to the museum? They want to see the space exhibits while I’m mainly interested in WW2 aviation. Is 1 day going to be enough to see everything or should we just stick to the city centre and go to the Mall Building instead?
Thanks in advance.

I second Jeepman’s advice. As a local there is an easy way via metro, bus and bus to get to Udvar-Hazy….but it takes time. Stick to the mall….you won’t have enough time to see what is on the mall in one day!

The Mall is well worth a look – even if a lot of things are gloomily lit and crowded. Udvar-Hazy Center is amazing, even if some stuff is poorly captioned!

Thanks Jeepman. I’d sort of guessed that was going to be the answer. Udvar-Hazy Center looks amazing but will have to wait.

I’d say stick to the National Mall sites including the NASM – particularly if you have only one day in DC – too much to see otherwise.
Also they have stopped the shuttle between the NASM on the Mall and Dulles so you would have to find your own way out there.
Fine if you’re flying into/out of Dulles because there is a shuttle bus from UH Centre to Dulles terminals and vice versa. There are large lockers at the UH centre to take your suitcases…….
