Lancaster Wreckage ID Requested

Hi, this is my first post and also first post for our new WW2 air crash search team. We are based in Rheinland-Pfalz here in Germany and we already had our first mission to Lancaster crash near Bostalsee which happened on December 16, 1944. We believe it is NG294 from 625 Squadron. We find much wreckage over large area including piece of undercarriage as you can see. Also parachute harness. We also find some .50 cal ammo, so assume it is from a Rose Turret? We include some pictures of what we found, so we hope the members of this forum can help us ID them. We will again visit the crash location soon with more people and equipment to help us, so we will post more news later. Thanks.

Hi Dieter

Image 0143 is one of the engine electric generator brackets and 0144 is part of the boost control from one of the engines.

Thanks guys – this is very helpful. We spent a long time figuring out the Lanc’s landing gear from tech drawings we found but now we know why we did not find this part! This was a good reason for posting on this forum. You are right about the crew – they are buried at Rheinberg. We have a wartime report from local people (which is not nice reading) but they originally found only three crew. You can still see the empty grave at the location today. I guess they must have found the other four sometime later. We are now planning our next visit when we will have more equipment, as we think there is much more still in the ground.

Thanks again,
Dieter

Hello Dieter, interesting pictures. The second photo stainless steel section is the bar the rudder pedals hang from rather than undercarriage. No idea on the other bits. Do you have details of the crew? Thanks for posting.

Interesting photos – It seems to have been a very new aircraft, lost on its first mission.
