Brooklands Aerojumble – 19th July 2009

I know some people missed it last year thorough lack of marketing, myself included, but this years Brooklands aerojumble is Sunday 19th July 2009, combined with the autojumble. For your information.

Just thought I would bounce this back to the forefront as a reminder of the Brooklands aerojumble (combined with autojumble) on Sunday 19th July 2009, weekend after this one. Lets hope it’s a good one!

For those interested the aerojumble link is as follows:

http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/index.php?/events/details/2009/07/19/

On a different note, remember the Redhill aerodrome (Surrey) aerojumble which got off to a promising start a couple of years ago, I spoke to the organiser of this and unfortunately it looks as if there will be no more of these from Redhill.

No but I believe other possibilities are being looked at

For those interested the aerojumble link is as follows:

http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/index.php?/events/details/2009/07/19/

In essence the following is stated,

This is the only jumble in the UK that combines Car, Motorcycle and Aero and is organised by the Brooklands Trust Members. The Museum opens at 10am and normal Museum admission applies. Early Bird tickets are available to allow access from 8am.Auto and Bike Jumblers have the choice of a 20’ by 15’ uncovered pitch or a covered 9’ by 15’ space in the Race Bays. Aero Jumblers also have the choice of a 10’ by 10’ space in Barnes Wallis’s former drawing department. Prices are £50 for tuning bays and £30 for all other pitches including 2 exhibitor passes and £3 voucher for use in the Sunbeam Tea Rooms on Sunday morning. Set up is from 5-10pm on the 18th or from 7-10am on the day. Overnight camping on the 18th available.

I suspect that if 2 people are going (as in my case) then having a £30 stall wouldn’t be much more than buying 2 early bird entrance tickets in the first place.

On a different note, remember the Redhill aerodrome (Surrey) aerojumble which got off to a promising start a couple of years ago, I spoke to the organiser of this and unfortunately it looks as if there will be no more of these from Redhill.

I will be attending the War and Peace Show this year for the first time.

Is there much of aeronautical interest there, or is it mainly military?

There’s probably only half a dozen stalls dedicated to aeronautica (out of many hundreds) but the stuff tends to turn up just about anywhere.

Hence you have to be prepared to slog around the whole course and keep an eagle eye open at all times.

Some very interesting stuff has turned up over the years I’ve been attending.

You are welcome, if it’s your first visit, wear comfy walking shoes, you will do a lot of that, and take a bag with lots of water in, if it is hot you will need it, and sun screen it is very open and little shade, it has in some years been unbearably hot, but conversely very very wet too.

also take plenty of money 😀 you never know what may be there, and there are no cash tills nearby so you won’t want to get caught short

Blimey, that’s why they get so few visitors then! A stall (indoor or outdoors) is £30. 😮

Out of interest, what do people think is a reasonable cost to:

Have a stand at an event?

To visit an event as a buyer?

I had been involved in this event (at their request) the first time around and, to a lesser extent the second time. I did try to gently point out what they had got wrong, how they could build the event, how they needed to promote and advertise it (none last year, I think!) etc etc. I don’t think they exactly took things on board although it could be a SUPER venue. Still….what do I know about aerojumbles, eh? 😉

the cost of setting up a stall was virtually the same price as the admission fee

I’ll try to get a stall there this year to sell some of my panels and throttle boxes. I did a stall 2-3 years back and quite enjoyed it, in fact the cost of setting up a stall was virtually the same price as the admission fee so therefore nothing was lost. Dont know how much this years fees will be though? From time to time I have come across some good items on the stalls so its always worth a punt over there.

I’ll be there, but only because it’s the start of the War And Peace Show week at Beltring, so I’ll be down that way anyway.

Brooklands seems to be all about cars, not aeroplanes, at least as far as this event goes.

I recall reading the give-away classic car mag that you always get at the Spring Beaulieu autojumble event, in May 2008, and spotting the half-page ad for the Brooklands AUTO/aero jumble and wishing that there were more aero people on their board of management…

It will be interesting to see how many aerojumble stalls they actually get…..!
