Twin Engined bomber on Norfolk beach?

I am told the sands of Scholt Head Island ( 2 nm north of the Burnhams) in North Norfolk have shifted and exposed a twin engined a/c from WW2. Can anybody shed any light on this story please?/ Thanks

As the initial question has now been answered, I cant see that this thread is going anywhere, and have therefore closed it for the time being. Should any relevant new information come to light, then feel free to drop me a line, and I’ll re-open it.

It seemed the original poster was led to believe it could be a Mitchell or something with twin fins from what somebody local told him is my understanding maybe try asking him

I am sure whatever the air frame is, is in a very parlous state after so many years in the sea like the Maid of Harlech sorry I must stay on topic maybe if other items are to be discussed move to the general discussion board ?

same as usual it seems my posts are being deliberately deleted, I am communicating with the Webmaster over this as we speak, I would have thought a little advice to all to hold back from attacking was more in order.

JC, yours is not the only post to disappear. Far from being “off-topic” I thought the deleted posts were very relevant.

I will be very interested to see the outcome of your discussions with the webbie.

I think a little humility by others is required as well as a level headed approach to handling things, common sense, courtesy,

Yes a slight over reaction, that could be put down to a misunderstanding and some guidance would be helpful unlike the rod of iron approach.

Another farce from nothing, as you can tell my recent experiences have soured my opinions of this forum, cue deletion !

To be fair, I think that any misunderstanding was cleared up, sometimes humour or light relief is unappreciated on this forum, and it may well be that the subtle irony r.e TIGHAR went un noticed by the thread originator, but, telling PM not to post further was, a bit strong, (in my opinion).

To his credit, he never responded directly to that, (nor asked for an apology) but supplied the very information asked for, and I think the opportunity to “kiss and make up” was still there, but not it would seem now.

Well said.

Along with Junk Collector and Ben, I think a little more help to a first time poster was more in order than the responses that followed.

Like your initial reactions Tangmere LOL.Reminds me of the early days when Control Column used to publish very grainy photos of bits sticking out of the sand. And then it took two months before we found out it was probably a twin engined bomber. Oh how times and expectations have changed.

Too late, I fear Tony. The OP has requested that his account be terminated.

Altsel
Paul is one of the many people on this forum who is most helpful with imparting his vast knowledge and for which I am most grateful. I suggest that a simple thank you would be fitting.

I see that it was wrecked whilst being towed into place for target practice; presumably someone couldn’t wait….

Prehaps an email to North and West Norfolk – Land and Sea Management
may obtain more info??

Scolt Head, SS Vina, large bits of metal sticking out of the sand, I’ve walked inside it, could it not have been confused with a twin engined aircraft on a dark stormy night, especially to a bird watcher looking for Storm Petrels.
B@gger me, I’m a bit of a gom, as you well know, but I know all about TIGHAR.

Erm…..you don’t suppose Altsel is really TIGHAR do you?

Now re-named.

Aircraft Like This Should be Exposed and Left.

😉

Plausible 😀

I wonder how long it’ll be before the airframe, if it is indeed such, is re-covered by the fickle sands of the NS coastline?

Somebody new comes to the forum with an interesting thread and you treat them like this. Then wonder why they dont reply.

He/She does not know anybody here or how long they have been a member. As a new member probably never noticed what information was at the top of peoples posts.

The OP had been a member since June of last year – surely long enough to have observed the nature of the type of correspondence that goes on here?
