Gooday All
I have been compiling a 5 minute video in memory of a few friends of mine who have died doing what they loved – flying aeroplanes. I want to keep alive their memory, each in their own way added to help make flying old aeroplanes what is is today. Vintage, historic and warbird aeroplane flying is more than just metal, wood and fabric – it is events, people and personalities.

Back in the early/mid nineties Shane Winter and I produced a couple of videos which we had planned to use to publicize the Queensland Vintage Aeroplane Group (QVAG), however as things worked out, we never got to release the video to the public.
I have put up a montage of video put to the song “Wings Immortal” composed/performed by Bart Stenhouse. The video contains quite a bit showing wing walking. This features Bob Copas and his girlfriend Lace. Unfortunately both Bob and Lace died not long after this was shot. They died performing wing walking in VH-UNA. I flew the camera ship for the air-to-air shots and didn’t enjoy flying about the sky at 50 knots.
Also featured is a number of bits showing Barry Hempel spinning Tiber VH-UVB. See in you can count the turns, I counted 7.
Some of the video shows a five ship formation, 4 Tigers and a Stampe. Much of the formation video was shot in western Queensland.
See if you can spot my Tiger and Me.
Rest easy Bob, Lace, Barry and Shane – I honour your memory, I shall not forget!
cheers

A frame grab from the video showing the frame that was used in the wing walking. I had the chance to have a ride as a wing walker, but thought the better if it. Too daring for me.
I believe in that saying “There are old pilots and bold pilots but few old bold pilots”. The young land being strapped in is Lace and the fellow is Bob.
cheers
