I made it on the Sunday (having spent Saturday 08:30 – 14:00 cursing the weather back at base…) and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Shame I didn’t cotton on to the other Forumites lurking on the field – I really must try harder! Thanks to all whose efforts resulted in a pleasant and relaxed event. Plan A for my return journey (Sandown to meet friends) was scuppered by thunderstorms along the Poole/Bournemouth/Southampton section of coast but an inland route straight back to base was blessed with sunshine and excellent visibility, the only showers being localised and well of my track.
Here are a few snaps from my pocket digital:

Slightly off topic but I have enjoyed watching Band of Brothers Marathon today and it showed the Dc3’s taking off from Upottery field..
Unfortunately, North Weald, masquerading as Upottery. If only they had used the real thing!

It looks like the event at Upottery was a great success and the weather was fine as well!

We made in the end.
Was nice to put faces to names, honoured my trailer was used as the dias for the dedication at the end, there was lots to see and do and I was very impressed.
Thankyou to all the friendly people we met and hope we could do this again!
( Bugler, spit man, spit!!)
cheers Baz

Martin
Glad you made it in the end. Yesterday was blimmin cold, windy and wet – probably more in keeping with D-Day itself, I guess, but no fun when all you want to see is aeroplanes at this very historic airfield. It was a real shame that the Dak couldn’t make it as per last year and 2007 – that would have been very nice.
Here’s hoping the SWAHT manage to put on another show next year. More power to their elbow(s)!
Cheers
Lee

I thought it was very good, thoroughly enjoyed myself and the company of forumites T6Flyer, Spitfireman and HFL.

It was something of a weekend of two halves. The intention yesterday was to visit in ‘662, but I was ‘volunteered to fly in the Broussard, and so due to the lovely weather that we were subject to, we only got some ten miles from base before we had to sadly return home.
Today, it dawned a little better (not a lot, as a certain magician says) and so I was deposited at Dunkeswell this morning to arrive in Auster 9 prototype WZ662 – the only aeroplane to make it in yesterday – to Upottery. We were duly joined by the Broussard in which I had to cadge a lift home in, after the Auster left without me.
In all a very interesting day. A big thank you must go to the organisers for such a well presented day and the number of people that took an interest in our two aeroplanes.
Must say a big thank you to Lee Howard, who texted me yesterday constantly with the weather details (shades of Yeovilton last year, cept the weather then was a far lot better) and today to XM682, Spitfireman and replica guru Dave Hobson for keeping me entertained throughout the day. The latter almost talked me into a fibreglass Harvard. Having seen proof of his work now, I am very impressed. Better start saving up my pocket money!!
Best wishes to all,
Martin

I’m going tomorrow…..will be there in Auster WZ662. We went two years ago (when there was a C-47 there) with the Broussard and a few more Austers and had a wonderful time, showing the aeroplanes and enjoying the atmosphere at this historic airfield.
