A friend of mine has gotten a propeller blade from a friend, but he doesn’t know wicht type it is or belongs to (it isn’t in mint condition, but hey… it’s a gift ;))
Dimensions 160cm Long and on the widest point 31cm
Here is a image of it. Het thinks for himself it’s a propblade from a P-38.

Grtz.

This confirms it 100% to be German. Somebody will possibly be able to identify the aircraft type. The BA stamp in the octagon is the standard German inspectorate/acceptance stamp for Luftwaffe aircraft components.

Certainly not P-38, the pitch change gear arrangement on the bottom is different. Another check will the Curtiss stamp on the base of the blade. As others have said looks to be a German VDM.

Hmmm, looks like a late war german paddle bladed prop, but I’m not sure about the ‘lip’ at the bottom, at the division between the bare metal and painted blade. Also the ‘fatness’ of the blade is quite low down, my 9-12159s have a thicker chord much nearer the tip, but that may just be the photo angle. Any chance of taking the hub off and looking at the base of the blade? And as said above, any more pics would be good. 🙂

If that`s the front of the blade, and it does look like it, then it`s left-hand rotation, did the Germans use LH props?

Night Night Andy time for…
Ah….now that raises an interesting point Mark 12.
Dunkelgrun?
Schwarzgrun?
Schwarz?
Or another newly discovered variation of “Sky Type S” ??
Now….where’s that Horlicks tin? Have you noticed how closely, by the way, that Horlicks resembles the colour of Sk…..oh….never mind!

I will look at my P38 blade in the morning and see if it similar.

The bottom hub looks distinctly like a German VDM propellor to me. But I could be wrong. Is the blade colour black or a very black-green?
Are there any numbers stamped into the bottom of the boss and can we see a close-up picture of that part?
