Whilst looking for info on East Fortune Beaus, came across this album which appears to show some work being done on the Beau

Hi DaveF68,

That is my album and it shows my visit back in 2004 when the airframe was available to inspect within what was then the restoration hangar.

This is the link to my albums, of which a few are of that visit to East Fortune,

Glad these shots are still of interest.

Beaufighter aside, a visit to the Museum to walk round the new areas is very rewarding.
Good to see a proper job has been done there.
Well set out with some pieces never seen before can make for a good day out.

Always amazes me that the single Pioneer can trave to Oman on ‘loan’ but couldn’t make the journey to the land of it’s birth for all these years!

I’ve mentioned this before, but there was a change in curator soon after the Beau was purchased, and there was a definite impression that ‘war’ planes were not looked upon so favourably, the new curator being a Social Historian and not an aviation specialist. The post has changed again since then I beleive.

Yes indeed. What has happened to the Beaufighter ? It obviously has strong connections with East Fortune so why not make the effort to restore it. It’s a pity the Museum of Flight doesn’t put the same effort into restoring the Beaufighter that they put into moving the Concorde onto the site and displaying it.

Yes, that little issue came to my mind too. All the publicity at the time, the Beau laid out in the restoration hangar for a while, then nothing.Wonder what happened to it?

All that stuff about Beaufighters and no mention of the one they have in storage….

A Very Good point! Just see how good the Blenheim looks now after many years of work on it. I tried to get some information from the Museum about what is happening to the Beaufighter, without success. I think its a disgrace that all that money was raised to buy it (and a large amount came from a single indivdual. I knew the person involved who has since died) and its not even available to the public an an unrestored state. I have a reason for not making waves about this but perhaps another forum member could take it up.
