'elf and Safety – 1940 style

If you watch this (try to ignore the commentary – and was a Tr9 really first built as a Mark 1?), you’ll notice a formation a few seconds in, in early 1940 black-and-white underside scheme.

Now, IIRC, there was an article in Flypast recently about this scheme which included a squadron who painted the ailerons the opposite colour to the rest of the wing – the reason being to make the wing visible in a blacked-out hangar, to stop people walking into it!

Lo and behold, what are the Spits in the formation wearing but this scheme! I should get out more…
