Can’t believe how long since she was in the air:eek:

I hope she returns with clipped wings. She was the 1st & only clipped Spit I saw until Stephen Greys 9 arrived.
Looks like your wish has been granted

DUXMAN, I am not sure why but your photos remind me of the Spitfire that was in the Southend Historic Aircraft Museum back in the 70s, the one with the cricket stump marks in the wing, why I do not know.
Great update thank you

Forgive me if this has been addressed before: do they have the “correct”/older style exhaust stacks? I remember her having six-a-side in photos taken before the current work got underway.
They had some 3 aside exhausts back in the early nineties/late eighties.

I had the wonderful privilege of sitting in the cockpit of ‘501 during the summer of 2005, thanks to the generosity of the Shuttleworth crew, and always think of her cameo in one of the most evocative videos on the internet:
NN-A, at about 9:02. You can almost hear the banter and feel the breeze, and wonder how many of those men saw home again.

No doubt the Spit will be absolutely fantastic when finished. However, I am a bit disappointed that she has lost her “patina”. I don’t think AR501 ever looked better than she did with the clipped wings and weathered paint job. Of course I realize both of those were gone prior to the start of the current rebuild but still…

Their FB page has regular updates. Engine is in, gear swings are done, system checking is ongoing. I understand they hope to have it flying during this season. Still a fair way to go yet though!

Is it right that AR213 now flies with AR501’s old DH prop and spinner and that AR501 is having a Dowty Rotol fitted ?
