Eustace Short photo. Doctored?

In the April issue of Flypast, there is a piece on the early days of British aviation featuring Charles Rolls and the Short brothers.

In thge photo on page 34 Eustace looks odd.
He seems to have a huge head out of scale to the others in the photo.
Not knowing Mr. Short personally, he may of actually looked like that.
Or was the photo doctored in period? (Perhaps in the original image he didn’t look great so it was adjusted to preserve a record the meeting).

Any ideas?

Maybe look a bit harder.

The Monash/Hargrave site is a useful resource of sources. Save your comment for the East of England Tourist Board, or follow up the links, and evaluate the data.

I simply pointed at the first photo I could find.

I wasnt criticising your choice of link James,I just made a comment about one paragraph…perhaps you should save your comments for EETB (whatever that means) I am sure they will be fascinated 😀

regards baz

I thought he might have had Pagets disease.

I looked at your link James
I liked the simplistic view that the R101 was ‘buffeted by heavy winds and brought down’
No mention of the fact that the R101 simply was not airworthy !!

Horace (not Eustace) suffered a head injury resulting in meningitis while an infant, followed by abnormal brain development, which made him a genius although malformed. In other words, he did look like that (although I have not seen the photo you mention, I have others showing his large head).

He did look like that. He had a condition called brachycephaly which can result in an enlarged/deformed head.
