These two photos came out of an old album and they were taken when HMS Exeter visited the port of Antwerp in 1938. That predates my main area of interest by about two years so can anyone tell me what type those floatplanes are please? Something made by messrs Fairey or Hawker? I found HMS Exeter was refitted in 1939 and from then on only had a single Walrus as spotter.
TIA

Thank you John, those photos must indeed be much earlier than I thought then!

K 2775 also served on Leander and Neptune. Also once on Achilles. She crashed at Gibraltar in Nov 1935 and was struck off charge in Dec 1935, so your photo must have been taken earlier than 1938.

Steve & Dave,
Thanks for the added info!
Steve, there were only two more photos in the album, one view amidships and one from the bow but no aircraft on them – sorry! The prints are actually tiny, about 5 by 7 cm or so.
Cheers,
Walter

Here’s a shot of an Osprey S1688 HMS Exeter 2nd cruser sqdn.

The second shot is a great illustration of the unusual catapults fitted on Exeter and her sister, York. Aircraft were fired off at 45 degrees from the centreline of the ship, rather than the usual 90 degrees.
Cracking photos. Any more?
Best wishes
