having seen in the Flypast Halifax special, guided tours of Elvington’s Halifax are available at a modest cost. As I am currently working on a long term project about the aircraft type, I was chuffed at the prospect.
However, upon downloading the application form I was disappointed to find the modest cost in question was £60 for an indivdual visit, dropping to £20 if accompanied by a Halifax crew veteran.
Now don’t get me wrong,as I can appreciate the reasons for an entry charge which reflects how important the aircraft is & I fully endorse having to pay, but I feel that the price is off-putting to many & likely to discourage guided visits.
I also accept that it is YAM’s aircraft & they may charge what they please, but there are many people with a genuine interest in the Halifax,(quite often someone who lost a Halifax crew member very dear to them) who would love a guided tour, but sadly cannot afford that sort of money.
If anyone from YAM reads this, please don’t think I am being too critical or mean offence- I think it is wonderful & generous to even allow such tours & only wish more museums would follow suit, but please bear in mind that a lesser charge may bring you far greater dividends for “the people’s Halifax”.

Why not find yourself a Halifax crew veteran and treat them to a day out to remember which will be unforgettable for you too? Win, win situation 😀 I can’t recommend it highly enough and you will learn more than you ever would going on your own.

😀 Some already do, but I guess it’s a matter of how you determine your prices…
