Earsham, Norfolk

Anyone got any information on the USAAF bonb dump at Earsham, Norfolk? (near Bungay)? I’m doing a Landscape History project about the village and am desperately trying to get info about the USAAF activities there. I know it was connected to RAF 280 Maintenance Unit, and it was an RAF installation just post-WW2, then a USAAF installation into the 1950s.

What I actually need is info directly relating to USAAF activity and personnel there between 1942 and 1945. And anything about the rail spur which served the dump. Thanks in advance to anyone who knows anything! P.S. I’ve tiried USAF/USAAF historical sources in the States but even they know little about it. Bomb dumps just don’t seem to have the detailed technical records surviving in the same way that airfields do.

Thanks very much!

Asking on AIX is a good idea, there is even a resident Bomp Stores expert there (petertheeater)

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum.

You might find out more information on the Airfield Information Exchange web site [URL=”http://here

They are a wealth of knowledge and should be able to help you. If you can’t find after searching for what you want, join up and post your question in the relative forum.

Brian.
