Brendon Deere's Spitfire PV270 nearly complete

Have you guys been following the thread on my NZ forum about Brendon Deere’s beautiful Spitfire restoration? It is currently at RNZAF Base Ohakea getting final attention before making a return to the air. Brendon has been sending us regular photo updates, and today’s sees it outdoors with fuel in its tanks for the first time since 1956!

See here (page 3) for latest photos

Latest PV270 pics

They are indeed protectors, customised even!

Brendon invited me over for a look-see yesterday, how could I refuse? 😀 He also gave me the go-ahead to post any pics the forumites may wish to see, so enjoy! I’m sorry for the large amount of pics, but these are the select few of the 150 or so I took that I felt were good enough to post.

I was left speechless, this honey is so original and accurate, it really is a true testament to Greg and the ITL team’s workmanship. This is a seriously good restoration. Even the reflector gunsight – not fitted here – is in full working order.

Engine runs in the coming week, and, barring any serious issues, flight VERY soon after dependent on pilot availability and weather. WOO!

Debut still planned for Classic Fighters at Omaka, Blenheim, over Easter April 10-12.

Great to see another spit returning to the air. You just can’t have too many.

…Especially in “Al” Deere’s marking! So pleased to see these colours on a Spit at long last…well overdue! Now, when can we see an early Spit in the colours of “Kiwi”…

Regards;
Steve

She’s looking good. I believe the proposed FF date is April sometime?

A very strange looking propeller there, unless it is wearing tailored blade protectors.
