Apart form the Martinet TT 1, several other gems were to be found at Kirkby during the mid-1950’s, including 20 Spitfire Marks 16 and 22, 20 Hurricanes, an Auster A2/45, a Barracuda and a Hawker Hardy.
Can anyone add information (and photos) of these aircraft? Also, the fences made from Mosquito parts sounds intriguing!
I assume that Mark12 can add some details on the Spitfires?

I used to work for a firm on Ashcroft Rd some years ago – can’t remember any scrappies there at the time (1980’s)

I use a foundry at the back of the industrial estate and have got to take a few bits over in the next week or so so will have a look then.

The scrap yard was Henry Bath’s. The company evidently still exists on Lees Rd, Kirkby Trading Estate. That’s the west side of the oblong in the vertical view. It’s so long ago that I have no recollection of the yard’s position, except that it was not far off the East Lancs Rd (A580). Perhaps someone should check.
“The Hardy? It went on a bonfire last November. Don’t spose
yer interested in the Barracuda round the back?” 😀

Can anyone pinpoint whereabouts in Kirkby the yard was?
Somewhere in here I would have thought –

Hi
All I know is that the Hawker Hardy came from NO 7/ later 7f Squadron ADCC/ATC . They had it in the 40s when they were based in Heath Road School now a housing development. They got rid of it because (believe it not) because COWS were eating and damaging the fabric. Further to this I will PM you.:D:D
