Hi.
If theres any of you Gannet fans in the South Scotland area, we have a Gannet at the Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum and it is in quite good order.

While looking for Lightning pics I came across this picture of a Gannet that I took at Waddington BoB airshow in 1965, not great quality, but historically interesting.

I picked up a copy of ‘Gannet: From the Cockpit’ yesterday. A book mentioned in our other recent Gannet thread. A great read with superb pics. Also a nice couple of pages on the ferrying of the Indonesian AS4’s which we covered before.
Here I am at work doing a sound dub on a wildlife programme showing the large Gannet colony on Bass Rock. I can’t seem to get away from them. Back to the mix!

I’ve got an idea that the cacooned Gannet went to Indonesia for ground use only.
The Gannet at Flintshire College is ECM.6 XA460 768-BY, it became an absolute wreck but fortunately is well on the road to recovery now at Doncaster. More intrigueing is what appears to be a Swift F.7 behind, any details?

A Gannet in a plastic bag! Perhaps it’s a method of preservation we should look into again.

Here’s two more for Gannet fans while we’re at it. A cocooned one for the Indonesian Navy in Birkenhead Docks circa 1960 and the one at Flint Tech College a few years later. I can hear the weird sound they made to this day. Once saw one do a loop at a few thousand feet over our school!

Pagen01, for you and all Gannet lovers (is that allowed ?)
Cuverting a Gannet is illegal in the UK, but to love it is ok – I think

Thanks Keith, have never seen those before and some refreshing angles. The first pic is Abbotsinch (as are some of Wyvernfans) where scores of Gannets were stored and then broken up in the early to mid ’60s, some with hardly any hours on them.
Keep em coming!

They were luggage pods, I must admit I’ve never seen close up pics or know how they open etc. Some of the COD pods had the old Royal Mail poster stuck on them, like the ones you used to see on busses etc.
These pods are more stumpy than the finned version that you sometimes see on some AEW.3s which were fuel tanks. Palouste starters were carried aswel.

Design and layout sound, the Breguet Alizé looks similar and IIRC there was at least one design that competed with the Gannet that was similar looking as well?
Blackburn Y.B.1 (via Y.A.7 & 8)
Whats this with Gannets all of a sudden, I’ve been shouting about them for years and then all of these posts all of a sudden!

Unlike most people, I like how the Gannet looks:) Shame there aren’t more preserved 🙁
Fouga23,
I thought it was just me!! I built the Novo kit as a child and was hooked from then. If I had the abaility to build a nice model, there’d be a Gannet in the Circus 6 household!!

Not to worry…. perhaps a Fouga cockpit will make it before 2011 😉

Interesting XM692!!
However to ensure that I keep on topic the picture below show XP226 en-route from Lee-on-Solent to Newark in autumn 1983 in the ‘tender care’ of MARTSU.
