Messerschmitt Bf 109 to be built new in Bavaria again!
——————————————————————————–
”The german aviation history bimonthly “Klassiker der Luftfahrt” reports today, that a small german company at Freising (close to MUC airport) is building high quality new Bf. 109s and already started production. Even EADS seems to order parts there for their heritage flight.
The whole venture had been kept quiet about until today.

…..Then they get infected by the 109-virus……
Sounds familiar, heh heh

IIRC at the time it was even mentioned on FlugWerk’s website.
Some components were built for Black Six I believe, they are now doing
some nice work on Mustang assemblies. Would be nice to see some Typhoon fuselages and wings being built from scratch.
Cheers

I saw something like that in Warbirds Worldwide some years ago

Yes, I remember that advertisement as well, for DB605 and DB603s. I think some new in the crate, with optional overhaul in the purchase price. No quantity was specified.
No, I didn’t hear anything else about it after the initial buzz either.

I heard something vaguely similar as well – am sure it was reported on this board as well…

A batch of DB’s? Never heard that one!
By: Cees Broere - 11th February 2009 at 18:49
So when FlugWerk announced several years ago that a bach of DB’s had been found in the east, this was rubbish?
I thought FW were also involved with building new 109 airframes?

You’ll have to change the entire oil system to get an engine to work inverted and probably the cooling system as well. That’s a lot of work, you’re basically redesigning the entire engine block.

Would it be possible to put a merlin or V-1710
in upside down? (only if ABSOLUTELY necessary, obviously!)
I remember the P-51 pilots’ manual cautioning not to fly inverted for more than five seconds because of engine oiling. From that, it’s a guess that oil systems modifications for a Merlin might be expensive (but maybe not impossible.)
Flugwerk did not invert the Allison that they put in their Fw190D replica. If anyone was going to attempt it, they probably would have.

Why not just put it the right way up? :diablo:
Incidentally, I imagine the cost of modifying the engine to run in this configuration would be prohibitive….

‘For the benefit of the uneducated, I will translate’
Here some further information. Please excuse my English is no more the best.
The two brothers who are the owners startet with a company for regular metal mechanics. Then they get infected by the 109-virus. And then they specialize on the 109. The first parts developed in the year 2000. They have a lot of cnc-mschines and what is much more important, they have the original drawings of the 109. So they were able to digitalize the parts, put them in a CAD-System and rebuild every part of the 109. The parts have an extemly high quality.
Help vor other 109-projects is mandatorily. After the landing-accident of the „red 7“ they helped with spare parts and with a mounting jig. They also produce spare parts fort the 109s of the Messerschmidt-foundation. After the landing-accident of the G-10 (Black 2), they have the wings and other parts for repair. After the second emergancy-landing of the „red 7“ they bulid spare parts, for example the sheets fort he oil-coolant-radiator.
The first series will be 7 aircraft.
The question is always the engine. For shure, one or two of the aircraft will get an original 605 engine.

Werner Koelzsch may not fly his G14 but it is pretty much air worthy from what I’ve heard!

Daz i really only meant ground up rebuilds. Didnt include Buchons cos they’ve got merlins at the sharp end & forgot about black 6. Shame it was grounded !!
Steve
So how do Red 7, black 2 and FMBB factor in then! Werner Koelzsch may not fly his G14 but it is pretty much air worthy from what I’ve heard! There are also quite a few restorations to flight worthy occuring at the moment, problem is it all takes time, the air will soon be pierced by the sound of 500hp superchargers again!

That’s a bold statement. You’re forgetting the huge effort of Russ Snadden and his crew who worked X-amount of years on Black 6, plus the smaller band of restorers who’ve put Buchons back into the air.
Unless you mean “ground-up” rebuilds, of course…
