This time there are photographs!

This F-86 was the gate guardian at Bardufoss in Norway. During the winter they used to drag it into what was locally called the rock hangar. This was a horse shoe shaped hangar tunnelled into the hillside by Norwegian prisoners of war during WW2. The hangar had two HUGE 16 inch thick blast door at each end. It was home to a squadron old Cessna Bird dogs and the odd visiting F-16.

1984
Photography was strictly forbidden in and around the airfield. So if I’m deported to Norway and put in prison, you are going to have to visit me!

When were you there? I spent the latter part of 1989 and early parts of 90 stationed at Bardufoss AFB. At that time the F-86K was sitting outside the officers mess. Since then the Bird Dogs were taken out of service and (being MAP a/c) were given to Brazil.
