ID's of Buchons from my photo archive

Afternoon guys…

Whilst having a sort through some old boxes of photos, I would be grateful for any thoughts as to the ID’s of these three Buchon’s and their subsequent fate/status:

The first was taken at Biggin Hill in the late 1980’s

The next two were taken at Duxford in the early 1990’s

I have a sneaky suspicion that the last two could have been used in the Hans Dittes hybrid Bf109-10, but this is only a hunch and I’m probably completely wrong, so any help/pointer greatly appreciated… 🙂

🙂 Thanks for those David… I had a photo similar to the first but can’t lay my hands on it at the mo. I always thought that the nose was a replica too…

Hello Peter,

I have found two shots of the last fuselage on my harddisk. Its the same fuselage with the rusty gear legs and the checked camo.
The cowling looks like a DB engine. Possible the plane was build up as static replica with Buchon parts?

David

Thanks for the confirmation & dates 92fis 🙂 The photo was indeed taken between 1993 & 1995 when I was aircrew on Plane Sailings PBY-5A….

Looks like G-BWUE as Daz said, it was stripped down and being worked on when i was in the hangar in 94.

Thanks for the prompt reply Daz… the tie in with G-BOML makes sense as I also have a series of photos of it undergoing maintenance (mid-late 1990’s) at Duxford marked as “Red 3” with the red/blue fuselage bands before its repaint as part of the Breitling Fighter Collection…

You are indeed correct about the D-FEHD… it was daft of me to even consider image three being associated with the project!

First one is the OFMC Buchon, G-BOML.

The second, going by the pattern of camouflage spots on the lower cowl, looks to be G-BOML during its rebuild in the mid-90s, after a landing accident (wheels up?).

Not sure, but the last one could be the current G-BWUE (Tom Blair’s Buchon). That was held at DX by the OFMC for a number of years.

I think D-FEHD was rebuilt in Germany, using parts from various European sources.
