Seafire PP972 Scrapyard Stablemate

When PP972 was in the scrapyard at Gavres, France in 1966, she was sitting next to a Bloch MB174 Light Bomber – The Seafire was recovered in 1970 but was the Bloch MB174 ever recovered?

Can someone give the current status of Seafire PP972, there was a seemingly guarded comment about it back in August that it was now with it’s owner, so where is it now, near Stalham, Norfolk. How far did it’s restoration get, it sounded quite advanced to me, various Googled references suggest it was airworthy at a variety of places, Earls Colne, North Weald, I know it never was, but what has been the problem, as it seems to have been so close to being finished, a lot of time, effort and money spent in vain doesn’t add up to me. From what I gather Hawker Restorations were involved at some point, so what happened, is it all political, in which case I’ll shut me gob.
Incidentally, Hawkers website doesn’t seem to have been updated for over 3 years which, considering their amazing achievements, seems a little odd.

Many thanks indeed… it’s always great to see photos like this. It’s too bad about the Bloch though… so sad that a little foresight couldn’t have saved her too.

All the best,
Richard

I believe that the Bloch was scrapped the day the Seafire was removed.

I have a photo of the pair on the dump if anyone’s interested.

I used to have a smal book about French Seafires and at the end there were two pics of PP972 and the Bloch taken while in the scrapyard, it was mentioned that the Bloch was indeed scrapped soon after. Pity as it
looked to be very complete.

Wasn’t it recovered but then put in store and destroyed in the fire that engulfed so many airframes at the Musee de l’air storage facility at Le Bourget (Duvgny or some such spelling) or was that another Bloch?

Mark 12 will undoubtedly be along soon to fill in all the details ! I seem to recall a Hunter T.7 mission being flown to go and have a look at her by the FAA

and to think that the FAAM looked at the Seafire, but turned it down as being too corroded……………

I think the Bloch was scrapped
